Barry Naisbitt is well placed to provide insight on the current economic situation, having been Chief Economist at Santander UK – and formerly Abbey – since 1998. Barry joined Abbey National in 1994 and has worked through a period of significant change in the UK and global economies and also in the banking industry.
Prior to joining, he had worked as Principal Economist in HSBC’s Business Economics Unit, as an Economic Adviser at both HM Treasury and the National Economic Development Office (NEDO) and as a lecturer in economics at Liverpool University.
His main area of focus is analysing the performance of the UK economy, with a particular interest in the housing and savings markets, and households’ and companies’ finances.

Wellbeing at Work on Thursday October 23rd (from 8am at the usual venue, The Hauser Forum, 3 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge, CB3 0GT) explores what Cambridge employers are doing to enhance employee wellbeing. This session - aimed at HR, Finance, Facilities and other managers responsible for people’s wellbeing - features three Cambridge Network members (Talent Glue, COEL and Cambridge Plant Interiors) who are conducting some local research into the topic. Their research looks at the ‘hygiene factors’ in the design of the physical work environment as well as the 'motivating factors’ in an organisation’s culture that help to build and maintain wellbeing.
