On Friday 9 September, 550 guests raised over £320,000 at a glittering Gala Dinner at Trinity College to celebrate Addenbrooke’s Hospital’s 250-year anniversary.
Guests included the Earl and Countess of St Andrews, Sir Greg Winter and Hermann Hauser KBE. The Duke of Cambridge shared his good wishes in the introduction of the evening’s printed programme. Generous supporters and friends of the hospital and the university from all over the region came to enjoy the celebration.
The event was hosted by Trinity College and included a champagne reception, a delicious four-course meal and spectacular live entertainment, all within the historic setting of Nevile’s Court.
Jane Ramsey, Chair of Cambridge University Hospitals and Roland Sinker, Chief Executive of Cambridge University Hospitals welcomed guests, who were later entertained by compère Clive Anderson, Kit & McConnel cabaret and a stunning Grand Finale by members of the West End cast of Les Miserables. Guests also had the chance to take part in various fundraising activites on the night including a special live auction led by Lord Archer.
The Addenbrooke’s 250 Gala Dinner was arranged by a dedicated committee headed-up by Mrs Ginny Robinson, who said: “This was a fabulous way to celebrate 250 years of Addenbrooke’s Hospital and for so many in our community to show their real love and affection for the hospital, its clinicians and staff. We couldn’t have achieved any of this without the huge support of so many sponsors and friends. Having been able to raise so much money on behalf of the charity, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust, we know that the funds will be used to help improve patient facilities and care beyond what the NHS is able to provide. My committee and I are incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and who donated so generously.”
Liz Haigh-Reeve, Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s Director of Fundraising said: “We are so grateful to Ginny Robinson and her committee for organising this fantastic events and to everyone who so generously supported it. We’re absolutely delighted with the amount raised, which will be used to make a difference for patients throughout Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals, over and above what is possible through NHS funding alone. So many people will have reason to say thank you for many years to come, this tremendous total will have a huge impact for patients.”
