St John’s College was given the accolade by CambridgeBID following visits by a number of ‘mystery shoppers’ who checked out the service on offer in the Buttery.
Undercover representatives from CambridgeBID visited the College without warning to assess a number of different aspects of customer service such as cleanliness, choices, staff training, local knowledge and friendliness.
Following two visits by ‘mystery shoppers’ in March and July, the Buttery scored an average of over 90%, resulting in the Gold Award.
Bill Brogan, Catering and Conference Manager at St John’s said: “CambridgeBID was impressed with the cleanliness of the Buttery and our efforts to be environmentally friendly, but what they found particularly outstanding was the knowledge and friendliness of our staff and their commitment to delivering the very best customer service. Ray is doing an excellent job as Buttery Dining Room Manager, developing the skills in his team and ensuring that we are providing a varied range of dishes for our customers. I am delighted that they have been recognised in this way.”
St John’s College has an international reputation for fine dining backed by numerous catering awards over the years including being recognised in the Sustainable Sourcing Awards 2013 at which Bill Brogan was given a Special Achievement Award. It offers unique rooms for private functions of all sizes including: The Hall which can seat up to 300, The Wordsworth Room up to 50, The Parsons Room for an intimate dinner for up to 16 and the Old Music Room for drinks receptions and buffets for up to 60.
Cambridge BID is an organisation that represents 1,100 shops, bars, cafés, attractions and services in Cambridge city centre and aims to ensure that visitors, locals and businesses enjoy a vibrant, safe and clean environment.
