Headway Cambridgeshire seeks big butts!

Rainwater butts needed for a water harvesting project that could save over 1400 litres.

Do you have a rainwater butt that you no longer need, or do you know someone who would be willing to donate one?

Headway Cambridgeshire writes: "At our rehab hub in Fulbourn, near Cambridge, we have been steadily creating an outdoor horticulture space that is accessible by people living with the long term effects of brain injury. We now have chickens who are happily laying eggs in their chicken coop, and we have been steadily growing produce in raised beds in our poly-tunnel to cook in our kitchen.

"However, our plants are thirsty and at the moment we are meeting all of their watering needs from the mains supply. A key part of our horticulture project is to help people living with the long term effects of brain injury to learn about sustainable growing techniques – so we need to find a different water source!

"We have plenty of downpipes and they’re just waiting to be fitted with diverters to give us the water we need. If you have a 210 litre water butt in good / excellent condition complete with stand and diverter kit, and you no longer need it, then please get in touch! Equally if you know someone else who would be willing to donate theirs, please put them in touch with us.

"We are looking for seven butts in total – that’s over 1400 litres of water we can save! If you know of a local supplier that would be willing to donate new kit we would be more than happy to issue a press release about the handover of the butts.

"If you can help, please contact: Lou Shackleton, Fundraiser at lou.funding@headway-cambs.org.uk or 01223 576550."
