Howes Percival named in the Top 100 'Best Companies' list

24-05-2021

Howes Percival has been ranked in the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list for the second year running.

The list celebrates excellence in workplace engagement and is widely acknowledged as the most searching and extensive research into employee engagement carried out in the UK.

Lists are compiled based on employee opinions on how the company supports wellbeing in the workplace, gives something back to society, shows strong leadership and teamwork, provides opportunities for personal growth and offers fair pay and benefits. Only the organisations with the highest level of overall employee engagement qualify for the ‘Best Companies to Work For’ list.

The prestigious list, published 21 May 2021, confirmed Howes Percival in 72nd position in the UK’s 100 Best Large Companies to Work For category. The firm achieved a 2 star Best Companies accreditation, which is given to organisations with an ‘outstanding’ commitment to workplace engagement. In addition, Howes Percival ranked 5th in the Top 20 Best Law Firms to Work For 2021 list.

Howes Percival provides a full service legal offering to corporate and private clients. Clients include Government departments, international brands and household names such as Ford Retail, Persimmon Homes, Anchor Hanover Group and FTSE listed pub operator Marston’s. The firm maintains a strong core client base of SMEs and family-owned businesses, plus high net worth individuals.

Howes Percival’s Chairperson, Geraint Davies, commented,

“We are delighted to have once again, been recognised as one of the UK’s best employers. The award is based on employee opinions – which makes it very special indeed. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at Howes Percival for their hard work and dedication in what has been an exceptional year.

“The pandemic has created some extraordinary challenges and I’m incredibly proud of our response. When the first lockdown was announced, we were able to move entirely to remote working and our people were very much at the heart of our arrangements. Our state-of-the-art IT allowed us to develop new virtual forums to work together, to provide training and welfare support and to help us stay and feel connected. We increased the frequency of meetings to ensure we have regular, two-way dialogue with staff. This helps us assess what we need to do to support people working remotely. For example, in response to feedback from staff, we’ve introduced extended lunch breaks, allowed more flexible working, created ‘Coffee and Connect’ socials and walking challenges.”

Geraint continued,

“Nurturing and developing our people is a long-standing value and we are very proud that many of our senior staff, including partners, began their legal career with us. We want all our people to share the firm’s strategic ambitions and to understand the part they play in the overall picture as well as to feel supported, valued and rewarded. Our bonus scheme applies to all employees, enabling them to participate in the profitability of the firm, while we have a range of family-friendly working practices and health and well-being benefits, which can make a big difference to the day-to-day experience for team members.

“The environment and ‘giving something back’ are also core values for Howes Percival. We take our environmental impact very seriously and have set ourselves the target of becoming carbon neutral by 2030. Every year, each of our six offices selects a local charity to support and the firm matches most fundraising undertaken by teams and individuals. Our staff are also entitled to paid time off for volunteering.”
