In this digital era, we are constantly overloaded by information and data. It has been even more true over the past year, when daily figures of the pandemic were everywhere, all the time.
For this meeting Anna Lombardi, data and interactive journalist at The Times and Sunday Times, will bring meaning to all these numbers and complex statistics, shaping them into stories and bringing their human side to life.
The session will take an in-depth look at why a good data visualisation can sometimes be worth a thousand words, why and how people can be easily misled by numbers and why Anna, who also holds a PhD in experimental physics and Master’s in Science Communication, believes data literacy is one of the best pieces of equipment to navigate our times.
Faye Holland, Co-Founder of Impact Women’s Network, said: “We are thrilled to have Anna with us to discuss how data is used in the news, open data and data literacy. As with all our Network’s sessions this is aimed at anyone looking to challenge their own understanding and will give attendees the opportunity to ask questions on this hugely important topic.”
Impact Women’s Network is a network of female professionals, academics and entrepreneurial women from all sectors, who want to do things differently and have a significant impact on their industry, business, society and the environment. Sharing experience and expertise, we are united in raising the public visibility of impactful women and instigating even greater change together.
The group says: "We meet the first Wednesday of every month, 9.30-10.30am, at various locations in Cambridge (when possible) or via Zoom and Twitter. These morning meetings are grounded in women sharing their expertise as well as their experience through Impact Talks, group activities and discussions. If the past year has taught us anything, it is how to use and find new levels of agility. For 2021, the monthly sessions are focused on redefining this new-found agility as ‘inter-resilience’ – both in who we are and what we do, as well as across technology and systems. Each month, we will look in detail at leadership, business models and technology through a range of impactful speakers and thoughtful debate.
"These sessions are aimed at challenging our own understanding and approaches to some big societal issues. Everyone then creates their own impact at a personal, professional and collective level."
