International Day of Persons with Disabilities - an annual campaign aiming to join communities together to support people with disabilities and create a future for them where they experience equal opportunities and face no barriers in all aspects of their lives including employment. There are many organisations throughout the UK that are advocating for disability equality and they are supporting disabled people and their families. Some of the leading charities include Scope and Disability Rights UK which provide practical information, advice and emotional support when it's most needed.

"Disabled people are not burdens to society and can contribute to society's development with appropriate guidance and positive attitudes from other people."

NOT ALL DISABILITIES ARE VISIBLE

It is estimated that 80% of disabled people in the UK have a hidden disability.  Hidden disabilities are a wide range of physical and mental conditions that are not visible or immediately obvious to other people. They can include a hearing impairment, reduced sight, fibromyalgia, epilepsy, autism, Parkinson's disease and many others. Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally-recognised symbol for non-visible disabilities that was created to help people with hidden disabilities navigate and find help in public places.

There are around 7.7 million people of working age with a disability or long-term health condition in the UK and yet only around half of them are in work.
