Conference Cambridge is celebrating a series of successful conference wins for its venues and the city. Collectively worth approximately £1 million and £5.2 million* to the local economy, the events will bring over 3600 delegates to the city over the next two years.

Conference Cambridge, the official free venue-finding service for Cambridge University and its Colleges as well as hotels and other unique properties in the city, has announced that 15 major international organisations have signed up to hold their residential conferences in the city.

The larger events are taking advantage of Cambridge’s compactness and using several venues to accommodate the official conference programme and social gatherings while smaller conferences are being held in individual venues.

Judith Sloane, Deputy Manager at Conference Cambridge said: “We are delighted to announce our latest list of international wins which underlines once again just how attractive Cambridge is as a location.

“For many of these events we were involved in a competitive bid situation, working with the local organiser, often years in advance, to source venues, provide information and marketing collateral to develop these winning proposals.  Being able to announce such fantastic results is testament not only to the popularity of the Cambridge, but also to the hard work of the local organisers, our venues and the team here.  The value of the business the events will bring – and the impact on the local economy – is very significant and a great boost to the city.

Jennifer Brook, Bursar of Churchill College and Managing Bursar of Conference Cambridge added: “We are delighted that more and more organisations are discovering that Cambridge offers an ‘experience’ that adds value to a conference, not simply a destination that can host it. As a showcase for excellence in research, science, technology and many other disciplines, Cambridge offers an environment where ideas flourish and where delegates are immersed in the academic ambience which has been at the heart of many world-changing discoveries for centuries.

“Added to that, beautiful architecture, a huge choice of venues, vast green spaces and the proximity to all major transport networks, as well as an abundance of activities for social programmes and, as the results show, we have a winning formula!   We are very much looking forward welcoming these organisations and their international delegates to Cambridge in 2015 and beyond and we hope that they all enjoy the ‘Cambridge experience.’”
