Known for its listed buildings, award-winning modern architecture and extensive grounds, Jesus College embarked on the West Court development by purchasing the Grade-II listed buildings belonging to its neighbours Wesley House. These are now being sensitively refurbished and reconfigured to provide additional facilities and a landscaped court at the heart of the site.
By this time next year, West Court will include a multi-functional lecture hall equipped with the latest communications technology and able to seat up to 190 delegates. It will also house a dedicated events space, with a café, terrace area and basement bar. There will be residential accommodation available all-year round.
Some parts of West Court are already available for external bookings. The impressive Webb Library can be used for a wide range of events, from drinks receptions for 180 people to lectures for 75. Alongside this the Frankopan Room can be used for smaller meetings and receptions. Finally, with a brand new kitchen installed close by, the oak panelled Dining Room can seat up to 60 guests for dinner.
Simon Hawkey, Domestic Bursar said: “We are very excited by the opportunities the West Court Development will bring in terms of the facilities we can offer. We look forward to seeing the project as it progresses over the next few months.”
Zoe Stubbings, Conference and Events Manager added: “West Court will enhance what we can offer in terms of spaces for conferences and events. The new lecture hall will be of particular interest, as will the hotel-standard year-round accommodation.”
The West Court development has been designed by award-winning practice Niall McLaughlin Architects.
Jesus College offers a range of conference and event facilities, located in historical buildings dating back to the eleventh century, as well as modern award-winning spaces. Dinners can be held in intimate private dining rooms for smaller groups from 16 to 34, through to larger gatherings of up to 150 in the Hall. There are 250 en-suite bedrooms for use outside vacations, including those in Library Court and North Court which have been awarded the Quality in Tourism 5 star accreditation by Visit England, for the fourth year running.
