The awards ask 200 of Britain’s top companies to assess their peers; Johnson Matthey beat competition from household names to secure the top spot.
Johnson Matthey says: Our approach to sustainability, research and development (R&D) and innovation, along with our strong company culture, set us apart from the competition. We have made the top ten list six times in the past eight years and this is the first time we have secured the title.
“Johnson Matthey proves that winners do not need to shout in order to be recognised as outstanding by their peers” – Management Today
“Johnson Matthey may not be a household name like many previous holders of the Britain's Most Admired Company award, but by consistently investing in R&D over many years and continuing to pursue new applications for its particular expertise in catalytic chemistry, Johnson Matthey proves that winners do not need to shout in order to be recognised as outstanding by their peers,” says Andrew Saunders, Deputy Editor of Management Today.
“This fantastic achievement recognises all the hard work and effort of every one of our employees across the world,” says Robert MacLeod, Chief Executive of Johnson Matthey.
“I am absolutely delighted that our focus upon innovation, continuous improvement and our customers has been awarded,” he continues. “This also recognises our substantial contribution towards the sustainability of the world around us.”
About the awards
The awards, now in their 24th year, ask 200 of Britain’s top companies and their bosses to assess their peers. There are 25 sectors with ten companies in each; each company then ranks the others from 1 to 10 on nine criteria. Combined with polls from City analysts, the total scores then form an overall winners list, a top ten for the criteria and a league table for each sector.
