Johnson Matthey has won the top prize at the IChemE Awards for a new process technology for methanol production that uses a gas heated reformer to save energy, cut costs and deliver a step change reduction in carbon dioxide emissions. Methanol is the simplest form of alcohol and is used in the manufacture of many everyday products.
Our new process technology is the result of over 20 years of research and learning and beat off tough competition from the likes of Shell and Ferrari to win Industry Project of the Year at the global awards ceremony, held in Manchester, UK on 3 November.
The team then went on to win the overall prize of Outstanding Achievement in Chemical and Process Engineering, coming out on top from over 120 entries that made the final stage of the awards.
The double award win is further recognition of Johnson Matthey's position as a leader in sustainable technologies.
