Kieran Skerritt remembered at local charity open day

Headway Cambridgeshire hosted an open day yesterday (Thurs) at their Peterborough hub, with an open invitation for people to come and find out about the support and social rehab services Headway Cambridgeshire offers to brain injured individuals, their families and carers.

Headway Cambridgeshire’s Peterborough hub is located within the PJ Care neurological care centre at Eagle Wood, Bretton, in Peterborough. The event was well attended and visitors enjoyed seeing the facilities and learning about all the services that are available.

Among the visitors were Wendy Green and Penny Hansen, staff from The Fayre Spot Bar & Restaurant at The Cresset in Bretton, who presented a cheque for £2730 to the charity in memory of a friend Kieran Skerritt, who had died following a head injury in 2011.

Kieran Skerritt of Bretton, Peterborough, was just 22 when he was suddenly taken ill after playing football with friends one Saturday in February 2011. Having suffered a brain bleed, he was rushed to his local hospital and then transferred to Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge, where he sadly died just a few days later.

Kieran was loved by family and friends alike and his sudden death at such a young age came as a terrible shock to them all. Kieran was immensely popular among the wider community and everyone wanted to remember him and honour his memory.

Friends and family say that had Kieran survived, Headway Cambridgeshire might have supported him during recovery and rehabilitation. So his friends and family have been fundraising to help Headway Cambridgeshire carry on supporting brain injured adults and their family, carers and friends.

Staff and clients of Headway Cambridgeshire have been very moved by the story of Kieran and are very appreciative of the support shown to the charity by his friends and family. This very generous donation will provide real help and support to those living with the after effects of a head injury.
