With more than seven years’ experience in the field of trade mark law and intellectual property rights, Laura advises clients on trade mark and design filing strategies in the UK and worldwide, as well as liaising with international lawyers to ensure applications abroad are proceeding smoothly. She also drafts objections, oppositions, invalidation and revocation applications with the UK Intellectual Property Offices and liaises with Associates to do the same before the EU Intellectual Property Office and other National IP Offices, as well as negotiating co-existence and acquisitions.
Listed as a Leading Firm in the Legal 500 UK 2022 rankings, Laura joins an Intellectual Property Team made up of more than a dozen specialists advising clients on technological solutions in a number of industries, as well as a number of litigation experts making sure every client’s assets are ring-fenced and their rights enforced.
Speaking after her appointment, Laura said: “I’m excited to join Birketts and get to work for my new clients. Melanie has gone to great lengths to make me feel welcome and it’s clear my first impression of Birketts was the right one. The firm has the same ethos of client care, something that’s crucial in this industry. Intellectual property can hold a huge monetary value and can be of the upmost importance to their owners, which makes the protection, as well as the exploitation, of them paramount.”
Head of the Brands Team in Birketts’ Corporate Team, Melanie Harvey, added: “Laura brings a huge amount of experience to the role and she will bring a new dimension to the service our clients receive. Her experience with international trade marks fits our global outlook perfectly.”
