The event – held at Caxton Kart Centre – raised in excess of £3000 to help pay for saturation monitors for the hospital’s Colorectal Unit.
On the night, competition was fierce and the result was difficult to predict with lead position changing regularly as participants attempted to outwit one another on the track and in the ‘paid for’ sin bin. But in the end – after a hard won battle – the coveted first place prize went to the team from Velocix, an Alcatel-Lucent Company. Velocix achieved the fastest lap of the race and also used the special black flag / sin bin fine system to perfection – sending their competitors for time out at strategic points in the race.
The other participating companies were ARM, Cheffins, CSR, Eversheds and Price Bailey.
Jane Small, a member of the Friends of Addenbrooke’s volunteer committee, and organiser of the event (pictured with the Velocix team), said: “In the last six years our Karting Challenge has raised more than £15,000 for good causes at Addenbrooke’s. This year we staged another great event. I am so very touched by individuals’ generosity. It brings a lump to my throat each and every time people are so forthcoming with their money, which we’ll invest to help improve the care of local people at the hospital.”
