London Marathon runners take on challenge for Addenbrooke’s

Seven runners from Cambridgeshire tackled the gruelling 26.2 miles of the Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 28 April and raised over £22,000 in support of Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT).

Each participant had their own reasons for taking on the London Marathon and fundraising for Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals.

Claire Taylor, a trainee paramedic at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, ran in memory of her Dad who passed away from cancer in November 2017. “My dad throughout all he was going through, couldn't help but sing praise about the staff within the Oncology deprtment at Addenbrooke’s.”

Jamie Stanford wanted to give thanks to the ANTS team who showed care, commitment and dedication after his twins Harry and Florence were born 9 weeks early. “The work that the team did in ensuring my son made it to the hospital for intensive care treatmet was truly remarkable. They really did save my boys life and I'm in no doubt that if it wasn't for them he wouldn't be with us today!”

Chloe Betson-Revell has been fundraising for the Children’s Appeal at ACT and raised over £7,000. “Being chosen as one of the lucky ones to run for Addenbrooke’s in London 2019 is a huge privilege! This was my first marathon  -  I knew I had one in my legs, so I dedicated 6 months to train hard and enjoy the journey, as the outcome is for such a wonderful charity.”

Lizzie Hills, ACT’s Donor Co-ordinator said: “We are so proud of all our runners for their fantastic achievements and commitment to supporting Addenbrooke’s and the Rosie hospitals. Our runners have dedicated months of their lives to fundraising and training, for this we are so grateful.“

If you’re inspired by this year’s marathon, now is the time to start training for your very own challenge. Whether it be a fun run, your first 5K, a nice flat 10K or if you're already running distances, next year’s London Marathon or your first ultra-run. Who knows where your journey will end?
