Long-standing clients get first taste of new dining room at Jesus College

A central Cambridge College has celebrated the opening of a new Dining Room in its West Court development, by inviting one of its longest-standing clients to experience the refurbished facilities first-hand.

Jesus College welcomed a group from Papworth Hospital to enjoy dinner in the oak-panelled Dining Room, to mark the end of their three-day Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) training course, held on-site and taught by the hospital’s specialised multidisciplinary critical care team.

Guests assembled for drinks and complimentary canapés before being seated for dinner in the traditional Dining Room, which provided an atmospheric setting with its deep red walls and ornate chandeliers.

The menu included locally-sourced English Asparagus as a starter, followed by Slow Roast Cannon of Lamb with Feta and Olive Crust, and concluding with Macerated English Strawberries with Lemon Curd, Prosecco Sorbet and Mint Meringue.

Zoe Stubbings, Conference and Events Manager at Jesus College said: “Papworth has organised regular events at the College over the last 15 years, including formal dinners and we were delighted to be able to offer them the opportunity to be the first external clients to dine in West Court.”

Over the years, Jesus College has established an excellent reputation for fine dining with the highest standards of catering, seasonal menus, locally-sourced produce and an extensive wine cellar. The oak-panelled Dining Room is an exciting addition to the current dining facilities at the College. Located on the first floor of West Court overlooking the courtyard, and serviced by a brand new state-of the-art kitchen, the Dining Room can seat up to 50 guests for dinner.

The newly refurbished facilities in West Court are due to open fully at the beginning of next year.

Jesus College is located in historical buildings dating back to the eleventh century, as well as modern award-winning spaces. There are 250 en-suite bedrooms for use outside vacations, including those in Library Court and North Court which have been awarded the Quality in Tourism 5 star accreditation by Visit England, for the fourth year running.

The Dining Room is now open for bookings. Please contact the Conference Office on 01223 760524 or email: conference@jesus.cam.ac.uk
