Fellowship is the highest grade of ICE membership and is for senior civil engineers who have made a significant contribution to the civil engineering profession or have advanced the practice of engineering. Fellows can use the post nominal letters FICE..
ICE was founded nearly 200 years ago and the first president was renowned road, bridge and canal civil engineer Thomas Telford. Today the Institution has 80,000 members worldwide. ICE is frequently called upon by the Government for its professional expertise in transport, water supply and treatment, flood management, waste and energy.
Director of ICE London, Miranda Housden, said: “ICE London welcomes Mr Palczynski to join the 240 existing working ICE Fellows based in the capital. Fellows are engaged in a position of responsibility in the promotion, planning, design, construction, maintenance or management of important engineering work. This may involve responsibility for a significant portfolio of projects, acknowledged expertise in a technical subject area or delivery of engineering education and training. As a Fellow he will be invited to join us in a programme of prestigious events with senior figures from government and industry to discuss how to improve the infrastructure on which we all rely.”
Mr Palczynski said: “I joined ICE as a graduate member in August 1998 and completed the professional qualifications to become a Member in 2002. I never anticipated Fellowship at this stage in my career but to now be awarded the status of Fellow is a great honour and I am just delighted that my experience to date has been recognised by ICE”.
“ICE membership has always been of great benefit not just to me, but my employers as well. The criteria for ICE membership remains extremely high and is rigorously monitored. Civil engineers play a very important role in society and the standards the ICE maintain give immense value to our profession”.
“I look forward to working with ICE to promote the work of civil engineers and to encourage the next generation to take up this rewarding career.”
