Magnifique! Le Tour comes to Cambridge

In a flurry of excitement, the Tour de France, the world’s greatest cycling race, came to Cambridge yesterday. Thousands of people lined the route to cheer the riders as they made their way through the city to start the third stage of the race, which took them through Essex and on to London, finishing on the Mall outside Buckingham Palace.

The route took in the historic city centre and riders cycled along King's Parade and Trumpington Street before leaving the city via Trumpington Road.

"Thank you to all the people who played a part in making it such a spectacle yesterday," said Claire Ruskin, Cambridge Network's CEO. " "It was a fabulous day in Cambridge and it was clear that a huge amount of good work from the City Council and many others had set up an excellent event."

The last time the Tour visited England was in 2007 when it raced from London to Kent and 2 million people turned out over two days across all locations.
