Making Cambridge the best place in the world to do business: Network latest from the CEO

As the community came together last week for Cambridge Business Week - and Business Secretary Vince Cable described the region as "the most successful cluster of entrepreneurial business in Britain" - the spotlight was turned on the city again. Claire Ruskin, Cambridge Network's CEO, comments: "Joining up to put on 2013’s Cambridge Business Week showed us what we can do when we get together as one Cambridge and turn up the heat.

"TV, radio and press gave Cambridge a warm glow; further afield, speeches were picked up by Forbes magazine in the US, among others.  David Cleevely was quoted and Vince Cable endorsed our top position in the UK (he meant the world or at least Europe of course).

"Our purpose last week was partly to celebrate locally, reminding ourselves of how we are still growing the local economy and how many current successes we have and new businesses developing, but also to tell the rest of the world, including London, about doing business with Cambridge.  We want to keep exporting products and bringing business to Cambridge.

"AstraZeneca is bringing its global headquarters to Cambridge, having seen the cluster effect that was noted during its evaluation process.  The ecosystem undoubtedly makes a difference and we are getting more top level recruits attracted here.

"Warren East, who is recognised as one of the world’s top CEOs, has developed his skills here in Cambridge. We are hoping that as he is leaving ARM in excellent home-grown hands, he will have more time to spend in Cambridge with our next generation of world-class businesses.

"Bringing the business leadership together to promote Cambridge business should happen all year round and at Cambridge Network we are keen for that to make a real difference.

"We will help to bring the leading networks and leaders together to make sure that Cambridge continues to be the best and most fun place in the world to do business."
