Marshall earns coveted ERS Gold award for armed forces support

Marshall has received a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) Gold award from the UK Ministry of Defence in acknowledgement of its forces-friendly employment practices.

This is the first year Marshall has achieved the Gold award, and represents the culmination of a multi-year effort to combine the group’s existing initiatives into a single approach across its businesses.

Through a three-tier approach of bronze, silver and gold awards, the ERS recognises the different levels of commitment provided by employers. Marshall had previously held the Silver award since the scheme first came into effect.

“We have supported UK Defence for more than 100 years in various ways, so to be recognised with a Gold Award is a proud moment for us all,

“We recognise the value that our employees who are involved with the wider defence community bring to Marshall - from veterans and reservists to cadet force adult volunteers and their families.

“These individuals bring a deep understanding of the military environment, which is important for so many of our customers, together with values, culture and approach that are vital to effective teamwork.”
Gareth Williams, Chief Executive Officer – Engineering Businesses, Marshall

Since 2013, Marshall has been a signatory to the Armed Forces Covenant - a pledge to ensure that those who serve or have served in the armed forces, and their families, are treated fairly.

To earn the Gold award, Marshall was required to demonstrate proactive force-friendly recruiting processes, positive policies in support of reservists in the workplace, a framework in place to support mobilisations and exemplar support of the cadet movement with mentoring and coaching practices in place.

“It’s been such a privilege working with Marshall who’ve dedicated time and resource to ensure they have robust policies in support of the men and women of our Armed Forces Community,”
Kristina Carrington. Regional Employer Engagement Director, East Anglia Reserve Forces and Cadets Association
