MasterChef presenter Gregg Wallace and ‘Secret Millionaire’ team up to help raise money

Peterborough’s own ‘Secret Millionaire’ Mike Greene and Peterborough Community Foundation have teamed up with MasterChef presenter, Gregg Wallace to host a special fundraising dinner at the Haycock Hotel* on Monday, 23 April in aid of Localgiving.com’s Peterborough Match Fund.

All profits from the evening will bolster a £100,000 ‘Match Fund Pot’ being championed by Mike to match pound-for-pound every donation made to Peterborough charities on the www.localgiving.com web site.

Commenting on the event Mike said, “We have a fantastic evening planned, a delicious five course taster menu with specially selected wines to complement each course which have been devised by food critic and MasterChef presenter, Gregg Wallace. Each course will be introduced by Gregg and he’ll also be revealing some amusing stories from the popular BBC programme.”

Mike appeared in Channel 4’s Secret Millionaire programme in the autumn last year where he went undercover at the cash strapped New Ark Adventure Playground in Reeves Way, Peterborough, later making a donation to the group that saved it from closure.  The experience left the successful entrepreneur who recently sold the retail consultancy, him! eager to do more to help local charities.  He explains, “The programme had a huge impact on me and left me hungry to do more to help charities in my community.  I was shocked recently by the fact that there are around 540 charities in a 20 mile radius of Peterborough but most local people when questioned couldn’t name one single one.”

He continued, “We have to change this and raise awareness and funding for all the local community groups and charities doing amazing things in our neighbourhood.  Working with Localgiving.com and the Peterborough Community Foundation can achieve this.  The Match Fund on 24 April will be followed by a series of other opportunities for charities to double their fundraising efforts throughout the year.

“The fundraising dinner will be a memorable night and to avoid disappointment we are advising people to make reservations as soon as possible.”

Localgiving.com is the national web site dedicated to supporting small, ultra-local charities; their Match Fund project will see eligible Peterborough charities and community groups receive double their funds through Localgiving.com up to a maximum of £2,500, plus an extra 25% with Gift Aid.

Over the coming months, Peterborough Community Foundation will be announcing a series of other match fund initiatives and advises charities and local community groups to get in touch as soon as possible to find out more details of how they can benefit from future Match Funding pots.

About Peterborough Community Foundation (PCF) www.cambscf.org.uk

Peterborough Community Foundation (PCF) help individuals, families, and companies who want to give something back to Cambridgeshire. It aims to provide an efficient and simple way for donors to make a long-term difference to the communities in which they live and work by setting up and then managing charitable funds on their behalf.

Donors do not give “to” PCF but “through” the organisation to a wide range of vital projects throughout Cambridgeshire.

PCF acts as a “broker” for small, local organisations, helping them access these grants - connecting local donors who care with good causes that matter.
