Meet the trailblazing ten art trail sponsors who are standing tall for young people in care

The charity behind the new art trail coming to Cambridge in 2024, Break, which supports young people in care, leaving care and on the edge of care across East Anglia, are delighted to announce the first ten sponsors that will be supporting Cambridge Standing Tall – an art sculpture trail that will see around forty giraffe sculptures towering over the city next spring!

The ten trailblazing organisations joining the new herd are Cambridge BID, Pentaco Construction Ltd., Cambridge Independent, Cambridge City Council, Aspiration Europe, Hilton Cambridge City Centre, Gonville Hotel Cambridge, First Copy, Grand Arcade and Lion Yard.

Commenting on their involvement as logistics partner on the trail, Pentaco Construction’s Social Value & Engagement Manager Louise Reeve says: “As Pentaco has grown, so too have the places we’ve been able to create and the people we’ve been lucky enough to engage with, both in construction and our community. This is part of the reason we’ve loved being part of the trails across Cambridge in support of Break. These trails create such a connection between people and place, and better yet they connect Pentaco with some really powerful work happening here in our community. We’ve grown with the trails, so it’s only natural we moo-ve from marvellous cow trails in 2021, to standing tall with the giraffes in 2024!’

Delivered in partnership with Wild in Art and principal partner Cambridge Business Improvement District (BID), the Cambridge Standing Tall follows on from the success of the Cows about Cambridge. Taking place for ten weeks from March 2024, each sculpture will be sponsored by a business who will choose from designs submitted by established artists to bring their long-legged sculpture to life.

Having been part of three previous trails by the charity, Elizabeth Budd from sculpture sponsors First Copy says: “The team at First Copy are over the moon to be sponsoring Cambridge Standing Tall. We do our best to give back to the community and the trails are fun and inspiring for thousands of local families. From a sponsor's point of view, it’s great to attach our name to something so colourful and joyful, and we’ve been delighted with the increased brand awareness and web traffic that the trails bring us. We are so looking forward to the art selection and seeing ‘our’ giraffe on the streets of Cambridge next year, and we would encourage other businesses to join the tower!”

The trail will be bringing together a wide variety of organisations from across Cambridgeshire and Break are inviting local businesses to join the trailblazing ten and take advantage of this unique opportunity, while also standing tall for young people in and around care.

“We’re delighted to be welcoming these initial trailblazing ten businesses to our herd and we are looking forward to working closely with them on this amazing trail for Cambridge,” comments Break Senior Partnerships and Projects Manager Pete Marron. “We have a variety of flexible sponsorship packages available and are always looking for more organisations to join our tower of giraffe supporters. We always work together with the local business community to create a trail that will give trail-goers an exciting new perspective of the city. It is such a great way for businesses and their teams to be involved in an inclusive public art event that is profile raising, community focused and that also has both positive social and economic impact on the region.”

Ian Sandison, Cambridge BID Chief Executive Officer says: “We are delighted to be the Principal Partner for the Cambridge Standing Tall 2024 project and to be working with Break on the city’s second art sculpture trail. Our ambition for this trail is to showcase the city to all who visit, live and work in Cambridge and encourage people to come out and explore areas they may not be familiar with.  The trail is designed for all age ranges therefore can be enjoyed by the whole family, making this a low-cost, accessible activity for everyone.”

All money raised will go towards supporting young care leavers, who have to leave care at just 18, and will mean that Break can be with them on their journey towards independence for as long as they need. Cambridge is home to the charity’s pioneering Staying Close, Staying Connected service, where young care leavers are supported into independence and beyond by providing good quality housing so they'll always have a roof over their heads and giving them opportunities to truly flourish and shine.
