Jon Stump, Finance Director, Mick George Limited, declared the garden officially open to the public yesterday (Wednesday 15 March) at a dedicated launch event. The guest of honour was also joined by the hospital Chairman, Dr Mike More; Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s Chief Executive, Stephen Davies; Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust’s Chair, Ros Smith; renowned sculptor Laurence Broderick and former patient Ruth Sapsed.

Mick George Limited, leading independent supplier to the construction industry, has donated in excess of £110,000 to develop the previously overgrown garden and provide enjoyment for patients, their loved ones and staff.

Bowles & Wyer, leading landscape and garden designers and contractors started the work in October 2016 and have recently put the finishing touches to the space with the hope of bringing comfort, tranquillity and emotional wellbeing to those that need it most during their visits to Addenbrooke’s.

With the considerable contribution from expanding local company Mick George Limited, the reconfigured space now features a number of beautifully crafted benches, a wide variety of flowers and ‘The Otter’, a water-feature commissioned for Addenbrooke’s by sculptor Laurence Broderick, who created the iconic ‘Bull’ centrepiece in Birmingham’s Bullring Shopping Centre.

Jon Stump, Finance Director, Mick George Limited said: “We are proud and delighted to support the redevelopment of this wonderful outside space for patients, visitors and staff at Addenbrooke’s. As an organisation we are dedicated to supporting the local community and our staff have greatly enjoyed supporting this special cause over the past year.”

Mike More, Chairman of Cambridge University Hospitals said: “We are so grateful that the team at Mick George Limited chose to help us with this project. Patients, visitors and staff alike will get a great deal of benefit from the garden and we are excited to see it blossom in the months and years to come.”
