The visit will involve a tour of the company’s large laboratory, a show and tell with some of the materials and a demonstration of how they are produced. Mr Zeichner will learn about Biozeroc’s innovative work in decarbonising the construction sector, which is traditionally one of the largest contributors to global carbon emissions.
Founded in 2021, Biozeroc is dedicated to producing carbon-neutral construction materials that are scalable and cost-effective. This process, which involves using biotechnology to "grow" concrete from bacteria-based binders, could significantly reduce the carbon emissions linked to conventional cement production and conserve water. The company is also committed to repurposing industrial by-products to minimise waste.
Biozeroc recently secured £815,000 in Innovate UK funding to further scale up their cement-free technology, and they are planning to roll out pilot installations on UK construction sites in 2025. The company's efforts align with the UK’s goals to build a low-carbon, sustainable economy.
Mr Zeichner commented, “I’m impressed with Biozeroc’s commitment to tackling climate change and transforming the future of the construction industry. We need innovative initiatives like this to help secure Britain's position as a leader in the global green economy."
