Murray Edwards College was awarded the accolade from VisitEngland, the country’s national tourist board, for the facilities and services on offer in its bedrooms and bathrooms in Pearl House and Buckingham House, as well as public areas such as Reception and the Dining Room.
The assessor examined different aspects of the accommodation – including decorative order, the quality and appearance of soft furnishings, bed linen and towels and the range of refreshments on offer.
VisitEngland’s Quality in Tourism report praised the clear signage for Reception with space for arrivals and departures, including comfortable seating; the quality of the beds; the choice of lighting both bedside and at the desk; and the provision of storage and hanging space.
Freya Vaughan, Marketing & Events Officer said: “We were so pleased to receive our Three Star Campus Rating this year which communicates an important message to our residential guests about the standard of our accommodation and gives them confidence that they will have an enjoyable stay.
“This success reflects a number of enhancements we have made to our facilities including upgrading the soft furnishings in our bedrooms – adding cushions and runners – to create a more welcoming feel.
“One thing the assessor made clear was that cleanliness is the most crucial element of any audit and we scored very highly here thanks to our excellent housekeeping department. Essentially this success is a real team effort and it is great that everyone’s work and attention to detail has been commended in this official way”.
Quality in Tourism is the assessment service for VisitEngland. Its Campus Accreditation is specifically for university or college accommodation and ratings are awarded on a scale of One to Five Stars.
