What the Fleur shop front

What the Fleur is an independent business, owned by professional florist, Julia Zimmerman. The shop stocks a wide range of flowers, plants, pots and dried flowers. Julia offers a daily fresh flower delivery service in Cambridge and the surrounding areas. She provides floral designs and installations for weddings, funerals, corporate and large scale events. She also hosts seasonal flower workshops open to all members of the public and for private group bookings.

Previously located in Fornham All Saints, What the Fleur will be the latest independent shop to join this buzzing central Cambridge shopping location. Other recent lettings on Magdalene Street include number 20, which was let to Groovy Garage, an independent vintage menswear shop and Soap & Clay which makes soaps using essential oils and which has opened at number 13.

Julia Zimmerman comments: “I used to work at ‘The Flower House’ for many years before starting up my own business. Magdalene Street and the Quayside area of town have always held a special place in my heart and it’s been a dream of mine to have my own flower shop here one day. When I saw that the premises were up to rent it felt like all the stars had aligned for me. As much as I enjoyed my time in Fornham All Saints, I felt tucked away and really yearned for somewhere to showcase my flowers. Being in a city centre location with such a gorgeous shop front will be an incredible asset to my business. My style of floristry, and the shop itself, is fun and eclectic - I have thoroughly enjoyed redecorating the unit and bringing my personality to the shop. I hope customers love it as much as I do.”

23 Magdalene Street is an attractive ground floor unit near the River Cam and extends to 365 sq ft. The Grade II listed property forms part of the historic collection of shops located opposite Magdalene College which has had a history of encouraging fledgling companies to its busy retail parade.

Georgina Bifulco, Surveyor at Cheffins comments: “What the Fleur is an excellent addition to Magdalene Street. With a history as home to some of Cambridge’s most diverse and fastest-growing independent companies, Magdalene Street has become a key shopping destination for people looking for something a bit different. The College is anxious to maintain the diverse tenant mix currently on the street and the arrival of What the Fleur will help encourage footfall to this beautiful area of the city.”

Cheffins has managed Magdalene Street for over 20 years and has delivered a programme of rejuvenation on behalf of Magdalene College including strategic advice on the tenant mix and enhancement of income stream.
