Simon Keen

Qualifying in 2006 and working at one of the biggest law firms in the UK throughout his career, Simon brings his experience and skillset to a top-tier Commercial Property Team, as ranked in Chambers and Legal 500 UK directories.

Simon has spent over 15 years in property law, developing a commercial and pragmatic approach to achieving results for his clients in development work, leasing and asset management. He has been involved in the development and letting of logistics centres, business parks, retail and offices, the delivery of residential schemes across England, and the leasing and asset management of various shopping centres, retail parks, office buildings and logistics warehouses, for both owners and occupiers.

As a leading lawyer in his field, Simon is also abreast of the increasing importance of sustainability and ESG in real estate. He advises his clients extensively on "green leasing" and the complex web of legislation emerging as the UK heads towards net zero, including Energy Performance Certificates, Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards, and the Energy Savings Opportunity Scheme. He has also carried out two in-house secondments in his career, cementing his understanding of client needs.

Speaking after his appointment, Simon said:

“Working as a commercial property lawyer, especially on development and strategic land projects, is all about building relationships and using the law to find solutions. I enjoy working with my clients and their counterparties to deliver commercial deals and unlock complex sites, and I know that I’ll be able to continue doing that with the team at Birketts. Their incredible depth of knowledge and their approach is exactly what it takes to get deals done, and I’m delighted to join them.”

Partner in Birketts’ Commercial Property Team, Kath Herbert, added: “Simon’s addition to the team cannot be overstated. His expertise and clients have synergy with our business and we are certain he will make an impact. I am very pleased to welcome him to the firm and I am sure his expertise will be a huge benefit to the team.”
