As the RAND Professor of Health Services Research, Mary Dixon-Woods will provide research leadership in the evaluation of health service organisation and delivery, with particular attention to primary care, the interface between primary and secondary care, and patients’ experience of healthcare.
Mary will also serve as co-director of the Cambridge Centre for Health Services Research (CCHSR), a collaboration between RAND Europe and the University of Cambridge. Jon Sussex, Chief Economist at RAND Europe, also co-directs the Centre. The Centre forms a collection of more than 20 researchers from a wide variety of backgrounds, brought together with the common aim of informing policy through evidence-based research on health services and systems, both in the UK and internationally.
Taking up her role this month, Mary will work closely with Prof Martin Roland until his retirement in August. As the first RAND Professor of Health Services Research and co-director of CCHSR, Martin’s impressive achievements have firmly established the Centre as a trusted source for objective health policy research.
Mary comes to her role having been Professor of Medical Sociology at the University of Leicester, where she led research focussed on patient safety and healthcare improvement, healthcare ethics, and methodological innovation in studying healthcare.
A Fellow of both the Academy of Social Sciences and the Academy of Medical Sciences, Mary is also a Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator.
