New school bus for the East of England

Anglia Ruskin University’s big green roadshow bus will be offering advice and guidance about Higher Education to school pupils in the East of England when it hits the road this summer.

Recent legislative changes now mean that schools and colleges are responsible for delivering information about careers and further study directly to their students, rather than using external careers advisors.

Anglia Ruskin’s roadshow bus will aim to offer a helping hand when it visits 28 schools and colleges across the region between now and 7 July.

Rachel Nedwell, who is responsible for outreach at Anglia Ruskin, said: “With the vast spectrum of changes happening in all aspects of education it is not surprising that many young people are finding it difficult to decide what their next steps should be, what GCSEs to take, if they should stay on at sixth form, and whether university is the best thing for them at 18.

“With recent statutory guidance placing the responsibility of providing Information Advice and Guidance (IAG) for students directly with schools themselves, this has left schools considering how they can best respond to the needs of their students.  We appreciate that schools are faced with swiftly putting in place a new IAG stream and we can help and support them by providing many aspects of that activity on their behalf.

“Our roadshow offers a one-stop opportunity for students in schools to access information about all aspects of progression to Higher Education and schools have been given the opportunity to schedule in sessions for teachers and parents, allowing us to support as many people as possible.”

Staff on the bus will offer youngsters guidance on how to apply to university, including help with writing a personal statement, and information on student finance.  Current students will be on hand to offer a personal insight into university life and there will be a number of subject-specific talks from Anglia Ruskin academics.

In addition to its visits to school and colleges, the roadshow bus will also be pulling into Ipswich, Southend-on-Sea, Cambridge, Chelmsford, Stevenage, Peterborough, Luton, and King’s Lynn for special weekend and bank holiday events.  As well as information about the range of undergraduate degrees, the public will also be able to find out more about the postgraduate and part-time courses on offer at Anglia Ruskin.
