The 100-mile charity bike ride is a legacy of the London 2012 OIympics. Nick will join more than 26,000 amateur cyclists biking a similar route to that of the London 2012 Olympic Road Cycling Races. The event starts in Queen Elizabeth Park, travels through the capital and then on to Surrey’s stunning country roads, before a spectacular finish on The Mall in central London.
Nick said: “As the event draws closer I am starting to feel a little daunted. However, I’m also incredibly excited as I know the atmosphere is going to be amazing. I’m hoping this will help to spur me on, especially going up some of the hills. Coming from the Fens, I’m not used to cycling across that kind of landscape!”
This won’t be the first time Nick has taken on an extreme cycle challenge. A few years ago he completed a week-long 500-mile bike ride. However, he has never tackled 100 miles in one day before, especially in timed conditions. In preparation, Nick has bought himself a new lightweight bike and has completed numerous training sessions, including a 60-mile ride last Saturday. His preparation for the challenge has also included being extra careful on the golf course! Having originally signed up to take part in this challenge in 2015, he managed to rupture his ankle ligaments when he stepped into a rabbit hole while playing golf. This meant he had to defer until this year’s event.
Nick is not the only one of Pure's team to go to extreme lengths to raise money for charity. This year Pure has already cheered on Jen Little as she tackled a 75km trek across the Sahara Desert in aid of ARHC, and supported Mark Wishart in his mission to complete a Brutal Midnight Mountain Marathon, described as being harder than marine training, to raise money for Delete Blood Cancer UK.
Everyone at Pure is wishing Nick the best of luck for the event, especially as he is also raising money for ARHC, which is one of the company's chosen charities. The charity supports people in Cambridgeshire who are living with a life-limiting illness and is the county's only adult hospice.
Nick has set himself a personal target of raising £1,000 for the charity and is already making good progress towards this. To sponsor Nick, visit his Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Nick-Culley1
