NRC Lausanne and Idiap Research Institute host Mobile Data Challenge 2012 Workshop

This past week, the Idiap Research Institute in Switzerland and Nokia Research Center Lausanne welcomed the top contributors to the Nokia Mobile Data Challenge (MDC) to a workshop held in Newcastle, UK, on June 18-19.

The MDC is a large-scale research initiative to analyze a comprehensive and relatively unexplored data set built around the Lausanne Data Collection Campaign - a joint effort to collect a longitudinal smartphone data set from nearly 200 volunteers from the Suisse Romande region over a year's time using privacy-by-design principles.

Organized jointly with the International Conference on Pervasive Computing, the Mobile Data Challenge 2012 Workshop presented awards for the best performing contributions for the Dedicated Track and the best ideas in the Open Track from over 100 submissions entered. Winning teams came from universities around the world, including Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, EPFL, University of Birmingham, McGill University, and City University London.
