The concert is the third of the established orchestra’s 2015/16 season and features Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5, and Four Last Songs and Der Rosenkavalier by Strauss.
Tickets for this unmissable performance are a perfect Valentine's Day gift for classical music lovers. The concert, which takes place on Saturday 13 February at 7.30pm at West Road Concert Hall, is described as a ‘brilliant orchestral showpiece with a rich romanticism and a rarely heard demonstration of sensuality coupled to genius’.
The orchestra features talented amateur and professional musicians conducted by musical director Robert Hodge, who also enjoys a busy schedule training some of the finest young musicians in the UK. Soprano Emily Garland is becoming known for polished performances in opera and as a recitalist.
Money raised through the concert will help ACT respond quickly to provide funds for wards, clinics and research teams, helping patients where the need is greatest. Types of projects that funds could support include producing information packs for breast cancer patients, providing additional portable breathing machines for terminally ill patients and funding research to identify patients at risk of developing gastric or oesophageal cancers.
Michelle Gray, head of community fundraising at ACT said: “It’s wonderful that the City of Cambridge Symphony Orchestra has chosen ACT as its charity for what promises to be a mesmerising performance. By supporting this concert you will help ACT in our work to make a difference for patients.”
