Hosted and supported by South Cambridgeshire District Council, and funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of the European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme, the Christmas Market is an opportunity for local traders to showcase their businesses and wares to the public at the end of what has been a difficult and unprecedented period of economic hardship.
This is the first time an event such as this has been organised by the Council in Cambourne where its headquarters are located. It will run from 12 noon to 6pm and will see over 100 local independent business stalls offering products ranging from crafts and novelties to Christmas gift ideas, with food and drink stalls serving traditional and festive fare. There will also be local performers providing live music and a funfair for younger visitors to help spread the Christmas spirit.
Covid safety measures will be in place throughout the market and visitors are reminded they can play their part in helping to protect others from Covid by wearing face coverings, taking a rapid flow test before leaving home and getting a Covid vaccination.
Cllr Peter McDonald, Lead Cabinet Member for Business Recovery and Skills, said: “We’re delighted to be hosting our first outdoor Christmas Market in Cambourne High Street on December 5 and are very grateful to Cambourne Town Council for their ongoing support with this event.
“The past two years have been extremely challenging for many of our local traders and have highlighted how important they are to the well-being and survival of our high streets and communities. This is our way of supporting and enabling them to showcase their wares and their businesses by bringing them all together in one place for the public to come and browse and buy.
“We hope it will be a very enjoyable day for all and, to protect lives and keep everyone safe, would ask that anyone coming along bear in mind the advice to wear a face covering, take a test and get vaccinated.”
