The award recognises PA’s work with Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust, Surrey County Council and Surrey Downs CCG, to create a COVID-19 rehabilitation centre for 130 patients in just 35 days.
PA was at the heart of the development, from co-ordinating building work and local volunteers to recruiting well-trained staff and getting hold of medical equipment. PA also set out how the Centre would operate, so everyone from doctors to porters knew what to do, and how. By mobilising quickly and adapting as the pandemic unfolded, PA and its Surrey partners created a place that helped patients recover fully from the effects of the illness and freed capacity in local hospitals to deal with new COVID-19 cases.
During the peak of the pandemic, it was crucial to get Seacole up and running so that nearby hospitals could release COVID-19 patients earlier to start what can be a long road to full recovery. Patients were also able to recuperate in a more pleasant environment that aids their recovery, while supporting other hospitals and adding extra capacity for new COVID-19 cases.
The HSJ Partnership Awards 2021 ensure the essential role of private and third sector organisations in strengthening our healthcare system remains in focus, following the most testing period for the sector in recent history.
Francesca MacVean, healthcare expert, PA Consulting, comments: “We are absolutely delighted to have been named as the winners of the Built Environment Project of the Year award. It means a great deal to all our team to be recognised in this way and we’re confident that the positive impact of this award will help to create a long-lasting legacy.”
HSJ editor Alastair McLellan, who hosted the Awards ceremony, adds: “Congratulations to PA Consulting on winning the Built Environment Project of the Year award at this year’s HSJ Partnership Awards. Following on from what has been a most challenging time across the entire healthcare industry, it was incredible to be involved in celebrating projects of such high calibre.
“This year’s entrants were of such a great standard, it posed a very difficult task to our experienced judging panel, who were not only impressed by the wide range of applicants who demonstrated real evidence of cost savings and efficiencies, but also the improvements to patient care.”
