Precision in every layer: celebrating over two decades of 3D printing innovation at IPFL

In the fast-evolving world of 3D printing, staying ahead of the curve means not only keeping pace with current trends but also pioneering new technologies. At IPFL (Industrial Plastic Fabrications Ltd), our unwavering commitment to innovation is evident in our rich history of over 55 years in bespoke plastic manufacturing and a remarkable 21-year journey in additive manufacturing.

A Legacy of Excellence

Founded in 1969, IPFL has consistently been at the forefront of the plastic manufacturing industry. Our venture into additive manufacturing began in 2003 with the introduction of our first 3D printer. This significant milestone marked the beginning of our relentless pursuit of excellence and innovation in 3D printing technology.

Expanding Our Capabilities

Our journey in 3D printing started with investments in Polyjet technology, which quickly expanded to include Selective Laser Sintering (SLS), Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM), Stereolithography (SLA), and Multi Jet Fusion (MJF). Each of these technologies brought unique capabilities to our portfolio, allowing us to cater to a diverse range of industries and applications.

Embracing Micro 3D Printing

Most recently, we have embraced the groundbreaking Projection Micro Stereolithography (PµSL) from Boston Micro Fabrication. This technology offers resolutions as fine as 10µm and 2µm, enabling us to deliver unmatched detail and precision. These micro 3D printing solutions are indispensable for applications such as microneedle arrays, microfluidics, and complex components in medical devices and electronics.

Adam Bloomfield, our Head of Additive Manufacturing, emphasizes the importance of versatility in our operations: “Our wide scope of manufacturing services serves a huge range of industries. We get a lot of custom because of our versatility.”

Showcasing at TCT 3Sixty

This year, at TCT 3Sixty, we highlighted our investment in PµSL technology. As the first bureau in Europe to integrate the 10µm system and now the only service with both the 10µm and 2µm systems, IPFL continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in micro 3D printing. PµSL uses UV light projection to cure liquid photopolymer resins layer by layer, forming high-quality parts with exceptional detail and accuracy.

Our early adoption of the MicroArch S240 and the subsequent integration of the MicroArch S230 2µm system from BMF’s series into our workflow make us unique in Europe. This capability allows us to undertake proofing and development work that transitions into batch production for unique pieces that cannot be produced by other means.

Commitment to Innovation

Looking to the future, IPFL is dedicated to advancing our technology and expanding our capabilities. Whether through continuous improvement of our existing technologies or pioneering new ones, our goal is to ensure our clients always have access to cutting-edge solutions.

Innovation, precision, and versatility are the pillars that define IPFL in the world of 3D printing. As we celebrate over two decades of additive manufacturing expertise, we invite you to explore how our advanced micro 3D printing services can help bring your next project to life.
