Luke Adams, 26, and Rhys Holton, 25, who are both accountants at Price Bailey (pictured above), joined a team of 18 intrepid explorers on a five-day trek to Guatemala to raise money for the UK’s leading dementia research charity. Despite the tough walking conditions and limited food, the pair conquered the challenge and raised £7,000 for dementia research.
This was one of the final fundraising activities as part of Price Bailey’s two-year partnership with Alzheimer’s Research UK. Employees at the firm got involved in lots of events to fund pioneering dementia research and raise awareness of the condition, including fancy dress charity days and grueling sporting challenges.
T(Image removed)he firm had set out to raise £60,000 for the charity but smashed the target, handing over a final cheque for £73,139 at an event in May. This money will be used to help Alzheimer’s Research UK in their mission to bring about the first life-changing dementia treatment by 2025. There are currently 850,000 people in the UK living with dementia, with around 82,000 living in the east of England.
Luke, whose grandma is living with dementia, said: “My grandma is now in a care home and I visit her every few weeks. Each time I go she has deteriorated even further and it pains me to see. That’s why I’m so proud to have been able to do the trek for Alzheimer's Research UK to help find a cure for dementia. It’s amazing to think that Price Bailey has raised so much money over the two years, we really felt like we had the support of our colleagues when we did our challenge and it’s great to have contributed to that total.”
James King, CSR Partner at Price Bailey, said: “What a fantastic end to our partnership with Alzheimer's Research UK. It was brilliant to be able to hand over a cheque for so much more than what we had hoped to raise. This goes to show that the cause really captured the hearts and imaginations of our colleagues. There have been so many highlights from over the past two years and it’s an honour to have been able to be part of Alzheimer’s Research UK’s movement to defeat dementia.”
Jessica Sayer, Regional Fundraising Manager at Alzheimer’s Research UK, said:“It’s so rewarding to look back over our partnership with Price Bailey and see what incredible things they have achieved over that time. Everyone at the firm has thrown themselves into our partnership, showing a determined effort to raise money for life-changing research and raise awareness of dementia. It’s thanks to the support of companies like Price Bailey, we will be able to discover the treatments that will bring an end to the fear, harm and heartbreak caused by dementia. We’d like to express our huge thanks to everyone at Price Bailey for their support in the fightback against dementia.”
Price Bailey has already begun fundraising for Action Medical Research, its charity partner for 2018-2019.
