As of 16 October, the number of full-time undergraduates studying with Anglia Ruskin has increased by 626 on the same week in 2011, with Cambridge (including Fulbourn) seeing a rise of 471 students.
In total 6,156 undergraduate students are enrolled this academic year on Anglia Ruskin’s Cambridge and Fulbourn campuses compared to 5,685 in 2011/12, an increase of 8.3%.
The news comes as preliminary figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS) are expected to show a fall of 54,000 students entering Higher Education this year.
Anglia Ruskin bucked the trend throughout the 2012/13 recruitment cycle, with applications through UCAS increasing by 7.9% at a time when applications were down nationally by 7.4%. Applications to study Law increased by 63%, while History and Engineering saw rises of 24% and 21% respectively.
Sandra Hollis, Pro Vice Chancellor of Anglia Ruskin, said: “The Government’s changes both to the way in which full-time UK undergraduates are funded, and the allocation of funded places to universities, have had surprising effects.
“Many universities have missed their student recruitment targets by hundreds while others have recruited the numbers they had anticipated, and we are delighted to be in the latter camp.
“Applicants recognise Anglia Ruskin’s excellent employability rate. The high number of our graduates in employment or further study puts us 36th out of 132 Higher Education Institutions in England, while the average salary of our graduates is also above the national average.
“The investment in new facilities on our campuses – £81 million has been invested in the last five years, with a further £124 million planned over the next five years – and our areas of world leading research are other reasons why more people than ever are studying at Anglia Ruskin.”
