Anglia Ruskin won the Outstanding Student Services Team category at the national Times Higher Education Leadership and Management Awards (Thelmas), after being shortlisted alongside the University of Bedfordshire, Birkbeck University of London, the University of Chester, the University of Roehampton and the University of Surrey.
Anglia Ruskin’s Student Services team helps with general questions and guidance on academic issues, as well as offering counselling, health advice, financial information and careers resources.
Julie Walkling, Director of Student Services at Anglia Ruskin, said: “I am thrilled that Anglia Ruskin has received the THE Leadership and Management Award for Outstanding Student Services Team. The award is a tribute to the commitment and passion of staff across Student Services to put students at the centre of everything we do.
“Our submission was on the basis of the huge step change we have made to improve the student experience at Anglia Ruskin and I am particularly proud of my management team for their leadership and dedication to our success.”
One of the judges, Andrew West, Director of Student Services at the University of Sheffield and Chair of UK Student Services Organisation AMOSSHE, said Anglia Ruskin had submitted an “impressively strategic entry with clear evidence of a planned approach to improvement across a wide range of student services”, as well as “very good levels of engagement and feedback from users”.
John Gill, editor of Times Higher Education, said: “The sector should take great reassurance from the extraordinary examples of creativity, commitment and sheer hard work that the awards judges have recognised.”
Anglia Ruskin was also shortlisted in the Outstanding Finance Team category, but lost out to the University of West London. The awards were presented by comedian Julian Clary at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London.
