Suits in Boots needs more Cambridge suits for charity football tournament!

La Playa will be gathering the Cambridge business community in a World Cup 5-a-side tournament to support the Street Child World Cup charity next month.

To date, the Suits in Boots charity football tournament has raised nearly £5,000 – four years on Matthew Mullee, an Ambassador for the Street Child World Cup and Founder of specialist insurance broker La Playa, is looking to double the amount raised for this year’s tournament.

In the hotly anticipated lead-up to Rio, the Cambridge-based charity football tournament is open to women and men and takes place on Sunday 15 September 2013 at Downing College Sports ground.  The family friendly event will include kids’ competitions, bouncy castles, lots of top nosh and the über competitive 5-a-side football tournament.  It’s £100 to enter a team (5-a-side) and is open to the Cambridge business community and beyond.

Matt Mullee, founder o f La Playa says, “It’s a great networking opportunity for Cambridge companies and it’s for such a credible cause. The Street Child World Cup (SCWC) has been part of my life for nearly five years now, and every year the charity aims to reach more street children across the world. SCWC is doggedly campaigning for street children  to receive the protection and opportunities that all children are entitled to.” (http://streetchildworldcup.org/).

The Street Child World Cup (http://streetchildworldcup.org/) gives a voice to street children across the globe who have no shelter, no education, no healthcare and no rights, and is a project that will run through to the next world cup in Brazil and beyond.  These kids aren’t even “a number” – no records exist for them, and abuse goes unnoticed. Conceived in Cambridge and played out last year in Durban, the event has spiralled into a global campaign with endorsements from Gordon Brown, David Beckham and Gary Lineker.

“When people see us by the streets, they say that we are the street boys. But when they see us playing soccer, they say that we are not the street boys. They say that we are people like them. They are people like us.”  Andile, 15, Duban

“It is great that the Street Child World Cup will use this game, which is loved all over the world, to help give kids a fairer deal. No child should have to be on the streets, so if football can be a part of making a difference, that’s fantastic.”  Gary Lineker, speaking at the Street Child World Cup launch

"I know from personal experience just what power football can have to inspire and change young people’s lives whatever their background or nationality. This is what the Deloitte Street Child World Cup is all about and I give it my full support.”  David Beckham
