An exciting young start-up company that connects people in the performing arts world has opened its doors at The EpiCentre in Haverhill.

Theatredor is an online networking platform where actors, writers, directors, stage managers, theatre technicians, in fact anyone involved in the theatre, can network for the benefit of their career.

Rod Potter, a director of Theatredor, says: “The platform, which features on Google Play and the Apple App Store, enables people in the industry to get together get, meet, and share ideas. For example, if someone has an idea for a play, they can join Theatredor for free, they can find a scriptwriter, a director, actor, stage manager, location to put production on and to crowdfund it.

“They can develop their career and even apply for jobs on the platform. As far as we know there is nothing like this in the theatreworld. It encourages people to be pro-active, we are saying ‘go out and create your own art, don’t wait for the work to come to you’.”

Potter, who trained as an actor at LAMDA and then went into computing, founded the company in 2021 with his business partner Natalie O’Sullivan, who has an MBA from Cambridge University. He says that The EpiCentre is the ideal location for both of them as they live close by and benefit from both its flexible terms and its business eco-system.

“To come to the EpiCentre where there is the business support is  very useful and we’re already finding it really beneficial,” he says. “ It’s a lovely place to work and we have already started collaborating with other companies in the building.”

Andrew Bell, the EpiCentre centre manager, says: “We are delighted that Theatredor has decided to make its home at The EpiCentre and is benefiting from the networking opportunities within the centre. It is this business ecosystem that we aim to achieve here so that start-ups and larger companies alike benefit from the support we can give them.
