From superhero capes to books, chocolate and cuddly soft toys, children were treated to some wonderful gifts from Tom’s Trust while spending time in hospital over the Christmas period.
The charity, along with Tom’s Trust’s psychology teams, organised the presents for children who were being treated at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle and Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool over the festive season, including children Tom’s Trust directly supports as well as other children with cancer.
Meghan Owens, Tom’s Trust Clinical Psychologist at Alder Hey, said: “The children and young people absolutely loved them. We had a lots of children dressed as superheroes running around, which was lovely. One little boy dressed as the Hulk to help him with a procedure he was worried about, and he did so well. It was a lovely way for us to be able to do something festive for the children.”
Kirsty Keegan, Head of Fundraising at Tom’s Trust, said: “The Christmas period can be particularly difficult for children who face spending it in hospital, so we wanted to do what we could to make their time in hospital that little bit brighter. This week we have had the privilege of seeing their happy faces opening their Christmas activity packs and toys from Tom’s Trust. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped to make this happen – from our kind and generous donors to our psychologists and Cambridge team who worked so hard putting all the gifts together.”
