Town and Gown show appreciation for academics’ efforts

Academics from Cambridge University were joined by the Mayor of Cambridge at a recent event to celebrate the successful promotion of Cambridge as a global centre of excellence for intellectual capital, leading-edge research and an ideal location for international conferences.

Organised by Conference Cambridge and held at Emmanuel College, the evening was an informal ‘thank you’
to Cambridge Ambassadors who, in bringing events and business to the City, are playing a key role in flying the Cambridge flag and reinforcing it as ‘the place for insight’.

Endorsing the value of Conference Cambridge’s ‘Ambassador Programme’, Professor Jeremy Sanders, Pro-Vice
Chancellor for Institutional Affairs highlighted the wealth of opportunities for knowledge-sharing and the importance of conferences in contributing, both educationally and financially, to core academic activities.

He said: “Conferences engender a spirit of communication and collaboration between participants and organisations, which is much welcomed and appreciated. The Cambridge Colleges foster an environment for events with themes that bridge disciplines and international borders.”

Mayor Councillor Paul Saunders reiterated the benefits of attracting conferences to Cambridge, not only in giving delegates the chance to enjoy the unique Cambridge Experience but also for the economic benefit each conference brings, both in terms of fuelling the local economy and local employment.

Guests were welcomed by Jennifer Brook, Bursar of Churchill College and Managing Bursar of Conference
Cambridge who thanked the Ambassadors for their assistance and looked forward to further collaboration in the future.

Conference Cambridge is the free venue-finding service for the University, Colleges, hotels and other unique properties in and around Cambridge and offers a programme of free support to anyone interested in making a bid to bring a conference to the city.
