Ahead of the event, Lord Green said: “The USA is the world’s largest economy and Britain’s biggest export market. It offers huge potential for local companies but it is important that you carefully do your research in this large and complex nation.
“UK Trade & Investment actively supports UK companies to find new export customers and we welcome approaches from East of England companies. Our support for potential exporters is a key part of the Government’s plan to double Britain’s export receipts by 2015”
Exports from the East of England to the USA are growing and this key market provides a wealth of business opportunities for UK companies. Now is a good time to explore the USA market particularly for hi tech firms.
Today's announcement by the Chancellor of The Exchequer of increased funding of £140m over two years for UKTI to deliver an ambitious package of support designed to get more SMEs exporting, help UK companies to access the highest value trade opportunities and reinforce the UK as the location of choice for Europe-bound investors came as a welcome boost. The Chancellor also announced an additional £600 million of capital funding for science, research and innovation, which takes the total investment since the 2010 spending review to an additional £1.515 billion. This will support high-tech areas such as Cambridge and Martlesham here in the East of England , where the UK’s research base and industry can gain a competitive advantage, like big data and energy efficient computing, synthetic biology and advanced materials.
At this major event organised by UKTI East, businesses will learn from US experts about key legal and marketing challenges faced when doing business or setting up in the USA.
A local company Shared Band from Ipswich will share their US experiences, what they learnt, and how they succeeded in setting up in the USA. CEO Paul Evans commented ‘For us the USA is a vital market providing the opportunity to exploit our technology and develop our business in a market that is open to new technology and the benefits it provides.’
Lunchtime will provide the opportunity for one to one meetings with UKTI sector specialists based in the British Embassies in the USA along with other speakers.
The afternoon will give delegates the chance to explore key issues for selected topics and sectors in more detail in workshop sessions:
- Healthcare and life sciences
- Creative media (including digital)
- Financing your international expansion and getting paid
- Setting up a business in the USA
- Using social media to drive business in the USA
Liz Basing, Regional Director, UKTI East, said: “The US is a key market for companies in many sectors in the East of England. UKTI is holding this event to support regional firms in furthering their global ambition in the US and to help them explore the opportunities available to them in some key sectors with the help of our specialists from the UKTI team based in the USA.
