The Travel Clinic Ltd has received calls from worried parents, asking what vaccinations they can obtain at short notice as they have needed to fly out urgently to support their son or daughter who is in hospital - most recently to support a young person who had been hospitalised in Thailand due to Dengue Fever (there have been recent spikes in cases of this mosquito-borne and sometimes fatal disease).
Following the ‘Know Before You Go’ guidelines and ensuring you attend a travel clinic at least six weeks before you travel to ensure you are able to complete the courses of vaccines you need, and to gain the expert advice of how to avoid illness and disease is essential. All travellers must ensure they have adequate Travel Insurance to cover the medical bills (which can run into many thousands of pounds) should they become ill or have an accident while abroad.
Philippines and Thailand risks for British travellers
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office has just released its annual British Behavior Report which highlights issues British Nationals have had whilst overseas. The British consulates operating in the popular holiday resorts of Spain, Greece and Egypt are reporting higher levels of hospitalization amongst holidaying Brits. When numbers of visitors are accounted for however, the Philippines and Thailand are the countries where British travellers are most likely to need consular assistance.
