About 80% of the homes people will inhabit in 2050 are already built. In order to meet the government's legal Zero Carbon targets, they will need serious improvement.
In other words, we need to decarbonise 27 million existing domestic properties in the next 27 years.
This immediate challenge to retrofit and decarbonise the housing stock is already proving to be a task with the initial Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund Wave 1 failing to deliver the quantity or quality* (*yet to be proven) of retrofits. With the imminent award of £800 million under wave 2, plus the available funds under ECO 4 and ECO+ funding - there are potentially more funds available than can be currently spent on retrofitting.
Cambridge Cleantech are engaging with the key stakeholders across the 'whole system' to gain a perspective of the key issues that will ultimately determine success.
