The CMC Charity Ball is a highlight of the College catering teams’ calendar. Guests at the special event took part in a charity auction and charity raffle to help raise funds for these local charities.
Robert Clarke, Chair of the Catering Managers’ Committee, presented the charities with their cheques at Trinity Hall and said: “We are delighted to make this contribution towards the important work of Arthur Rank Hospice Charity and Twinkle Star Children’s Trust. These charities touch the lives of so many people in the local community and help make a real difference to the day-to-day lives of those in need. We are thrilled that, over our past four fundraising events, the CMC has now raised more than £50,000 for local charities.”
Lee Corke, Chair of the CMC Charity Ball Committee, added: “This event was only possible due to the hard work and commitment of the Charity Ball Committee. We would like to thank the English National Culinary Team, Churchill College catering team and local students from the Cambridge Regional College for the outstanding catering they provided on the night. We would also like to thank all those who kindly donated auction lots and helped to make the evening such a success.”
Donna Talbot, Director of Fundraising & Communications for Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, said: “It was an absolute pleasure to be involved in such a well organised event. We would like to thank the CMC Committee and all those who attended the Charity Ball for their generosity as the money raised will be used to help the charity move one step closer to raising the £10.5 million needed to fund our new hospice project. The new hospice, which is due to open late 2016, will be double the size of the existing hospice on Mill Road and will ultimately allow us to care for more patients living with life limiting illnesses and their families in the years to come.”
Howard Chapman from Twinkle Star Children’s Trust said: “Twinkle Star Children were honoured to be chosen as a beneficiary of the CMC ball this year. We were equally humbled by the generosity of those who attended the ball. We would like to thank the organisers and staff for putting on such a fantastic event, even for a Caterers’ Ball the food was out of this world! We have already arranged for the money to put to good use providing outdoor activities for children housed at Cambridge Women’s Aid and to assist a local care home purchase an adapted vehicle so that disabled children can enjoy trips away from the home with their families.”
