Twenty-nine young people have taken part in the programme so far and Wysing Arts Centre is offering a free taster day on Saturday 28 January to recruit a new round of talented young people from this region to take part in an intensive version of the WYA programme.
During four days of workshops with professional artists, young people receive an introduction to contemporary art, curating, making work and visiting Tate galleries. The young artists also get the exciting opportunity to put what they’ve learnt into practice by curating their own exhibition at Wysing Arts Centre on 24 -25 March.
The deadline for applications to the WYA programme is 31 January, and the fee for the programme is £100 with bursaries available for families in need of additional financial support. Booking is required for the free taster day.
For more information and to apply for the programme visit www.wysingartscentre.org or contact Kirstin Bicknell, Education Development Manager on 01954 718881, email learning@wysingartscentre.org
The WYA programme is supported by the Ernest Cook Trust.
Wysing Young Artists is an intensive workshop based programme over 4 days: 13-14 February and 10–11 March.
Wysing Young Artists is modelled on the Arts Council ‘Escalator’ talent programme run by Wysing Arts Centre.
Escalator Visual Arts at Wysing Arts Centre is a two year programme of support to artists and curators built around eight themed four day retreats organised in partnership with curators on the Royal College of Art Master degree Curating Contemporary Art. 60-80 artists and curators with a connection to the East of England are invited to attend the retreats across the two years of the programme with a number receiving additional support through Grants for the arts. Since it launched in 2003, Escalator has helped over 250 artists to develop their work, forge new partnerships and reach new audiences.

WYSING ARTS CENTRE is a research and development centre that practically tests out new ways of thinking in contemporary visual art where artists working from studios or undertaking international residencies are encouraged, alongside visitors, to take creative risks in a supportive environment in which the exploration of process and collaborative ways of working are paramount. Wysing was established in 1989 on the 11 acre site of a former farm, 8 miles west of Cambridge and is a registered charity (no.1039555.)
