Gua Sha/Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM)
Gua Sha / IASTM treatment is available as part of TotalMSK's Mobile Musculoskeletal Therapy service.
Guy Sha is an ancient Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) technique, which historically has been used to treat soft tissues and even fevers and chills.
The technique is very gentle and involves applying a type of friction technique to superficial tissues and structures. The friction techniques are applied via traditionally shaped tools, which are often made of Bone, Jade or Horn. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation (IASTM), is a more modern interpretation of Gua Sha. However, IASTM tends to work both deep and superficial tissues and structures and frequently uses instruments made of surgical grade steel. The two techniques are also applied differently.

Remedial Massage is a very specific and more advanced form of massage therapy.
The aim of remedial massage is to identify and then treat dysfunctional tissues through the use of a number of advanced soft tissue techniques. One can reduce tissue tension, pain and restore normal movement patterns by addressing the underlying dysfunctional tissues/cause.
Dry Needling/Medical Acupuncture/Western Acupuncture
Dry Needling / Medical Acupuncture treatment is available as part of TotalMSK's Mobile Musculoskeletal Therapy service.
Dry Needling treatments involve the use extremely fine monofilament needles.
The needles are single use and disposable and during treatment the practitioner inserts needles into active myofasical trigger points. Dry needling can work extremely well at reduce tension and pain associated with myofascial trigger points. Dry Neeling can often be referred to as Western Acupuncture or Medical Acupuncture.
Mobile Sports Massage Service
Sports Massage therapy techniques are just one of the many techniques that practitioners at TotalMSK might use in the treatment of work or sports related Musculoskeletal conditions/injuries.
Contractary to popular belief, Sports Massage does not have to be extremely painful and when performed correctly it tends not to be. Many of the techniques used in sports massage are used to increase muscle suppleness, increase flexibility, reduce tension and musculoskeletal related aches and pains.
