At a recent meeting at Marshall of Cambridge, Julie Spence OBE, QPM,BEd, LLB, MA, MBA., HM Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, spoke about the multiple benefits companies can gain by the recognition this prestigious award can bring to an organisation. She encouraged companies to consider applying in one, or more, of the four categories:

- Innovation
- International trade
- Sustainable development
- Promoting opportunity through social mobility.

Our county already has a fabulous record of achievement, but the challenge is to aim even higher.

Dr Eric Mayes, CEO of Endomag, A Hologic Company, talked about their three awards and emphasised the kudos the awards bring, the sense of pride it provides throughout the company and the benefits that the application process brings.

Christopher Walkinshaw also highlighted that the application process provides valuable feedback to organisations who don’t make it through to the shortlist – feedback that will help future applications.

Cambridge Network CEO John Gourd said ‘beyond the obvious reputational and celebratory benefits that the awards bring, the application process itself, and the resultant feedback, are invaluable – I would encourage any local company investigates the opportunity to apply’.

Applications for 2026 opens in May
