Feedback themes
We received feedback through a number of forums – informally through conversations at our events and through written feedback submitted online and by post, with a total of 27 respondents between 11 November and 13 December.
Below, we have brought together the recurring themes from the feedback received from the community engagement.
Active travel & public transport:
- There was a strong desire for improved cycle routes to increase connectivity and safety in the local area.
- Some called for expanded public transport links to connect the site to the wider county.
- Given its connections to railway links, the site is widely seen as having untapped potential.
Parking needs:
There were mixed opinions on parking:
- There is a demand for adequate parking to make the site accessible for those who live outside of Cambridge.
- Others advocated for limited parking to further encourage alternative transport modes and active travel.
Sports & recreation:
- There was strong support for community-use sports facilities, including squash, paddle, tennis, and general recreation spaces.
Green public spaces:
- There was a desire for more greenery, including an increase in biodiversity.
- In addition, there was support for larger green spaces which are not in too close proximity to buildings, with improved connections to the nearby countryside.
Sustainable development:
- Some were concerned with the environmental impact of new construction and recommended the adaptation of existing buildings where possible in order to reduce the development’s carbon footprint.
Housing:
- There was a desire to make the site more visually attractive and ‘less sterile’.
- There was general support for mixed-use spaces combining housing, offices, and active travel infrastructure.
Next steps...
We were pleased that the vast majority of respondents supported the vision for a mixed-use regeneration of Cambridge Business Park, and there was a strong drive in this initial consultation to better prioritise the project’s social value for the local community.
The second stage of consultation is due to begin in Spring 2025, and we will keep you updated as to how you can get involved.
